Kris Gray

Head Coach

Qualification: Master Performance Coach (LTA Level 5)

Kris spent his junior years training and playing in Spain, and has picked up a wealth of  experience for international tennis, including spending a year at the Bollittierri Academy Florida aged 12. He Played Full time at the Catalan Tennis Federation (Barcelona) 1996 - 1999, then moved to Scotland in 2000 to begin coaching. Kris has coached players who have represented Scottish and GB Teams, as well as succeeding in lifting Scottish titles and international Tennis Europe titles (singles and doubles). 

His coaching philosophy is to create a personal best environment for players to be constantly challenged, and empowering players with the knowlege and self confidence to shine. his favourite qualities in a player are:

 Determination, self motivation, and discipline. 

Kris's Goal is to sit in the players box on centre court at Wimbledon watching his Pupil compete for the title.
Jordan  Gray

Performance Coach

Qualification: CCA (LTA Level 4)

As well as being part of the Glasgow Performance Tennis Coaching Team, Jordan is also head coach of Thorn Park LTC. Jordan played as a touring pro from 1997-1999 based at sutton tennis academy. His Career Highlights include: Playing wimbledon boys doubles, Playing German league div 2 1998-1999, Reaching the Final of british schools championship 1998, Winning numerous scottish titles from1998 to 2010 as well as representing scotland.  Jordan's Coaching Quote is that talent means nothing unless you back it up with determination and will to win.

Michelle Gray

Performance Coach

Qualification: Senior Performance Coach (LTA Level 4)
Degree in PE Teaching

Michelle is the Head Coach of the Glasgow Club Scotstoun Programme. As a player Michelle has won Scottish Titles from 12's through to 18's both in singles and doubles. She also played for Scotland in the Junior Commonwealth Games. Unfortunately injury put a stop to Michelle's playing experience. 

Michelle attended Edinburgh University 2002 - 2006 training to become a P.E. Teacher. Upon graduating, she decided to focus on a tennis coaching career. Michelle is a mini tennis specialist, she has developed and worked with many of our most promising juniors, and enjoys the challenge of identifying, developing, and retaining new young players to tennis. Michelle's coaching quote is 

"Failing to prepare is preparing to fail"  

Her Goal is to nurture players overall game while developing individuals characters and personalities through their game styles, with fun, disciplined, appropriate practices.
Mihaela Hagiu

​Qualification: Coach (LTA Level 3)

 
Mihaela (or Miha for short) started playing tennis at age 6. Already nationally ranked in romanian U12's, she moved to Italy to train at the Vavassori Tennis Academy, where she also competed, as well as competing in France. After Injury put a hult to her training, she was able get back into it while at high school in America, and achieved a university scholarship to Tiffin University, Ohio, and later onto Southeastern Louisiana University where she graduated with a BSc Accounting. 
In 2011 Upon graduating, Miha moved to Scotland to join her family, and started coaching tennis, she gained valuable experience in Western LTC and quickly passed her first 3 coaching qualifications. Miha believes Tennis has given her so many opportunities in life that she would never have accomplished without it, she is looking forward to joining GPT programme, and can't wait to contribute to Scotlands next superstars. 

Her Philosophy in coaching and in life is: 'What do​​es't kill you, only makes you stronger"

Callum Neil

Talent Performance Coordinator

Qualification: CCA (LTA Level 4)

Having been a former Scottish National Junior player at U14 level competing in Tri-Nations, Callum then pursued an academic path gaining a BSc Degree in Sport & Exercise Science at Strathclyde University in 2001.  It was after assisting in the Junior tennis programme at Milngavie LTC  that he discovered his passion for coaching tennis.  Callum became Head Coach at Thorn Park from 2002-05, attaining Mini & Performance Club status.  During his time there he was a West of Scotland County Coach, captained West of Scotland County teams, and captained the winning West of Scotland U12’s Inter-District team.  Between 2005-06 whilst taking a year out travelling in south-east Asia he worked in Melbourne Parks’ Australian Open Academy for 5 months working with John McCurdy, previous AIS Head Coach, as well as respected strength and conditioning coaches in the academy programme.   On returning home he worked at Whitecraigs Tennis Club (2006-11) as Assistant & Mini Performance Coach, where he established a very successful Mini Tennis programme for U10s. Callum was awarded LTA AEGON Coach of the Month in February 2010.  

His Coaching philosophy is:  'Without true inner belief and desire all outcomes are but chance results'

Callum has recently been appointed Tennis Scotland's  Talent and Performance Co-ordinator (TPC) for the west region.

Jonathan Pankhurst

Performance Coach

Qualification: Master Performance Coach (LTA Level 5)
BSc Sports Science (Bath University)​

Jon Joins us in 2012 as a very experienced and well respected coach. In his playing days Jon represented Scotland in U14, 16, 18, and senior, he also was also a semi finalist in GB nationals U18. From a Tennis Scholar at Millfield  School, and Bath University Jon entered his career in coaching where became the Head Coach of Loughborough University tennis team. Returning to Scotland in 2012 Jon is the head coach at Whitecraigs and a key addition to the GPT coaching team!

Billy McNeil

​Performance Coach

​Qualification: Senior Performance Coach (LTA Level 4)
BA (Hons) Sport Studies (University of Stirling)​
 
Billy is the latest addition to the GPT team and is also the Club Coach at Aberdour and Kinghorn Tennis Clubs in Fife.

As a junior Billy played in the National Squad from the age of 8-18, where he trained alongside Andy Murray. During this period Billy won numerous Scottish titles in singles and doubles, including the 18 under Scottish Junior Championships. Billy has also represented the East of Scotland team at both junior and senior level. At the age of 17 he was selected for the International Sports Scholarship Programme at The University of Stirling where he combined high performance tennis with full-time education.

Billy graduated from university with an Honours Degree in Sports Studies (including Sports Psychology, Physiology, Sports Business and Management). Upon graduating Billy began his coaching career as a Tennis Pro at David Lloyd, Edinburgh and shortly after also became Club Coach at Aberdour, Fife. Billy has developed the coaching programme at Aberdour from 30 children to over 130 children, helping the club win the East of Scotland Club of the Year Award, division 1 junior leagues and gain Club Mark status.

Billy is delighted to be joining the GPT team and looks forward to working hard both on and off court helping the players be the best they can be!
